List of Digital Economy Act Accredited Processing Environments

Digital Economy Act (DEA) 2017 accredited processors are accredited for the functions of:

  • linking, matching, curating and de-identifying of data (preparation); and/or
  • storing and provision of access to de-identified data (provision).

Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) was accredited for the preparation of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 9 February 2022. The accreditation will expire on 28 February 2027.

During its 2024 accreditation review, DHCW was assessed as Capable for Security and Capable for Data Capability.

DHCW’s next accreditation review is due in September 2025.

Submit a research project application via Digital Health and Care Wales

Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC) works in partnership with the electronic Data Research and Innovation Service (eDRIS) and was accredited for the provision of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 16 March 2020. The accreditation will expire on 31 March 2025.

During its 2023 accreditation review, EPCC was assessed as Capable for Security and Maturing for Data Capability.

EPCC’s next accreditation review date is due in December 2024 for Security and 2025 for Capability.

The Integrated Data Service (IDS) was accredited for the provision of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 14 September 2023. The accreditation will expire on 30 September 2028.

During its 2024 accreditation review, the IDS was assessed as Capable for Security and Capable for Data Capability.

The IDS’s next accreditation review is due in September 2025.

The National Records of Scotland (NRS) was accredited for the preparation of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 28 October 2021. The accreditation will expire on 31 October 2026.

During its 2023 accreditation review, the NRS was assessed as Capable for Security and Capable for Data Capability.

The NRS’ next accreditation review is due in December 2024.

Submit a research project application via National Records of Scotland

Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency Census Office (NISRA Census Office) was accredited for the preparation of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 14 February 2020. The accreditation will expire on 28 February 2025.

NISRA Census Office was assessed as Capable for Security and Capable for Data Capability during its 2024 accreditation review.

The NISRA Census Office’s full re-accreditation is due in 2025.

NISRA Census Office works in partnership with the NISRA Research Support Unit.

Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency Research Support Unit (NISRA RSU) was accredited for the preparation and provision of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 28 June 2024. The accreditation will expire on 30 June 2029.

At its accreditation in 2024, NISRA RSU was assessed as Capable for Security and Capable for Data Capability.

NISRA RSU’s next accreditation review is due in June 2025.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) Secure Research Service (SRS) was accredited for the provision of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 28 June 2024. The accreditation will expire on 30 June 2029.

At its accreditation in 2024, the ONS SRS was assessed as Capable for Security and Capable for Data Capability.

ONS SRS’s next accreditation review is due in June 2025.

Submit a research project application via the Office for National Statistics Secure Research Service

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) Data Access Platform (DAP) was accredited for the preparation and provision of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 12 August 2019. The accreditation was due to expire on 31 July 2024 but an extension until 31 March 2025 was approved by the Research Accreditation Panel.

During its 2023 accreditation review, the ONS DAP was assessed as Capable for Security and Capable for Data Capability.

The ONS DAP’s next accreditation review is due in December 2024.

Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) Databank was accredited for the preparation and provision of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 30 January 2020.

During its 2024 accreditation review, SAIL was assessed as Capable for Security and Capable for Data Capability.

The electronic Data Research and Innovation Service (eDRIS) works in partnership with the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC) and was accredited for the provision of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 7 December 2020. The accreditation will expire on 31 December 2025.

During its 2023 accreditation review, eDRIS was assessed as Capable for Security and Capable for Data Capability during its 2023 accreditation review.

eDRIS’ next accreditation review is due in December 2024.

Submit a research project application via the electronic Data Research and Innovation Service

UK Data Archive (UKDA) was accredited for the provision of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 16 March 2020. The accreditation will expire on 31 March 2025.

During its 2024 accreditation review, UKDA was assessed as Capable for Security and Capable for Data Capability.

UKDA’s full re-accreditation is due in March 2025.

Submit a research project application via the UK Data Archive

UK Longitudinal Linkage Collaboration (UK LLC) was accredited for the provision and preparation of data under the Digital Economy Act 2017 on 17 March 2023. The accreditation will expire on 31 March 2028.

During its 2024 accreditation review, UK LLC was assessed as Capable for Security and Capable for Data Capability.

The UK LLC’s next accreditation review date is due in March 2025.
