The UK Statistics Authority has today announced that Professor Jonathan Haskel has been appointed as the new chair of the National Statistician’s Advisory Panel on Consumer Price Statistics.
Jonathan is Professor of Economics at Imperial College Business School, Imperial College London, and has held a wide range of high-profile roles in academia. Professor Haskel was also a member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee between 2018 to 2024.
Jonathan’s wide range of experience as a user of economic statistics will be invaluable as the ONS continues its exciting transformation programme to futureproof our consumer price inflation statistics, transforming them for the digital age.
Commenting on today’s announcement, ONS Chief Economist Grant Fitzner said:
“We are honoured to welcome Professor Jonathan Haskel as new chair of the National Statistician’s Advisory Panel on Consumer Price Statistics.
“Our current programme of transforming consumer price statistics will benefit immeasurably from his extensive economic experience and knowledge.”
We would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to Dame Kate Barker who has chaired the panel for the last 9 years, guiding across important issues such as the development of the Household Cost Indices, reform of the Retail Prices Index, and use of innovative sources such as scanner data.
