Applications open for non-executive directors to join the UK Statistics Authority Board
The UK Statistics Authority is seeking to appoint three new non-executive directors to the Board.
The Authority operates independently from government. Formally it is an independent statutory body, and a non-ministerial department that reports directly to the parliaments of the UK, Scotland and Wales and the Northern Ireland Assembly.
The Authority is led by the Authority Board, which is made up of a Chair, at least five more non-executive members, and three executive members.
The Authority’s statutory objective is to promote and safeguard the production and publication of official statistics.
The Authority Board is responsible for the governance of the UK Statistics Authority, including its executive arms the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR).
It further oversees and provides leadership to the whole statistical system, including the network of Government statisticians, the Government Statistical Service (GSS) which is formally led by the National Statistician.
Non-executive directors provide constructive challenge, independent guidance, and specialist expertise to ensure the Authority fulfils its statutory mission to serve the public good. They also ensure delivery of its objectives, and that it fulfils the governance, financial management, and efficiency standards required of it as a public body.
