Researchers must be accredited to access data made available for research under the Digital Economy Act 2017 (DEA) and the Statistics and Registration Services Act 2007 (SRSA). The UKSA and ONS use the criteria set out in the Research Code of Practice and Accreditation Criteria to award accredited and approved researcher status.
The Research Accreditation Panel provides oversight of the framework that is used to accredit research projects under the DEA. As of 9 September 2021, the Research Accreditation Panel assumed oversight of the framework that is also used to approve research projects under the Approved Researcher gateway in SRSA.
