Analysis of bonus gap
Our bonus gaps have increased significantly in favour of women since 2023, where the mean gap was slightly in favour of women and the median gap was equal. This continues the trend since 2022 of women receiving higher average bonuses.
We redesigned the recognition scheme in April 2022 for colleagues at Grade 6 and below, changing the types of awards available and the values to improve access for all and enable a higher volume of awards to be made. Changes to the scheme increased the total annual award received by all colleagues, having a positive impact on the bonus gap, with women receiving a higher total award value across the year in comparison to men. They were also more likely to receive an award, with 90.1% of women receiving a performance award versus 85.5% of men.
SCS colleagues are eligible to receive both end-of-year and in-year payments in recognition of their performance. In 2023, 57% of women in SCS roles received an end-of-year performance payment compared to 36% of men in SCS roles.
