Our Structure
The United Kingdom Statistics Authority (UKSA) is our governing body. Sir David Norgrove is the Chair of the Authority Board and Professor Sir Ian Diamond is the Board’s Chief Executive, National Statistician and Permanent Secretary. The National Statistician also leads the Government’s Statistical Service and Analysis Function.
The National Statistician’s team comprises six direct reports:
- Sam Beckett, Second Permanent Secretary, Deputy Chief Executive and Joint Head of the Government Economic Service
- Jonathan Athow, Deputy National Statistician for Economic Statistics
- Alison Pritchard, Deputy National Statistician for Data Capability
- Vacant post, Deputy National Statistician for Population and Public Policy
- Chief Finance Officer, Nick Bateson
- Chief of Staff, Rob Bumpstead
There are 15 Directors:

- Grant Fitzner, Chief Economist and Director of Macroeconomic Statistics and Analysis
- Donna Leong, Director of Economic Statistics Change
- Pete Benton, Director of PPP Operations
- Nicola Tyson-Payne, Director of PPP Transformation
- Emma Rourke, Director of Health Analysis & Pandemic Insights
- Liz McKeown, Director of Public Policy Analysis
- Simon Sandford-Taylor, Director of Digital Services and Technology
- Sarah Henry, Director of Methods, Data and Research
- Tom Smith, Director of Data Science Campus
- Philippa Bonay, Director of People and Business Services
