Our Governance – How we will control delivery of the Plan

This section briefly explains the ONS’s governance structures and how delivery of the Strategic Business Plan will be monitored and controlled.

ONS governance was strengthened during 2020/21 after an extensive review.

UKSA Authority Board

The Authority Board is the statutory board as set out in the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007. The Board has a non-executive majority, and its sub-committees are all chaired by non-executive directors. The Authority Board has responsibility for setting the overall strategic direction of the organisation, and for promoting and safeguarding the production and publication of official statistics that serve the public good.

National Statistics Executive Group

National Statistics Executive Group is the senior executive committee supporting the National Statistician. It provides direction and oversight at the strategic level across the statistical system, with each sub-committee reporting matters for escalation via an oral update from each Chair at every meeting.

Portfolio and Investment Committee

Portfolio and Investment Committee oversees and executes decisions related to funding bids and ONS investments through the development and management of the Strategic Business Plan and Portfolio and robust challenge and scrutiny of their delivery.
